Degree-Seeking Admission

If you are a freshman or transfer student attending BCC for the first time, you must complete an Application for Admission before you register for classes.

Note: Please see additional instructions if you are:

Readmission:
If you've previously attended BCC, but have not taken classes since Spring 1999, you must resubmit an Application for Admission before registering for classes, but you do not have to repay the $20 application fee. The catalog in effect at readmission will be used to determine the appropriate curriculum.

Students who have been dismissed for academic reasons must petition the Academic Standards Committee to be reinstated. Forms are available from the counseling staff at Pemberton and Mt. Laurel.

Submit Transcript
If you have never attended college before, arrange for your high school to send your official academic transcript showing subjects completed, grades earned, and date of graduation to BCC's Office of Admissions. BCC also accepts students with General Education Diplomas (GEDs) and, in special circumstances, students who do not have a high school or GED diploma. Call (609) 894-4900 for details.

Note:
See additional instructions if you have attended another college and are transferring into BCC. Some programs have selected admissions. If you are applying for Nursing , Radiography , Health Information Technology or American Sign Language/Interpreter Education you must also submit a high school transcript and follow the specific policies about transferring college courses into each discipline.

Schedule Assessment
After you receive your letter of acceptance, schedule a College Assessment Test. This assessment provides information about your English and mathematics skills. This two and one half-hour assessment includes questions on reading comprehension, sentence skills, essay writing, computation and elementary algebra. Your admission to BCC does not depend on how well you perform on this assessment. The results help BCC to place you in the most appropriate courses for your level of preparation. In some cases, this may include developmental courses. See the Test Center Web site for scheduling information and test-taking tips.

The following students may be exempt from the Assessment:

  • Students enrolled in a bilingual or English as a Second Language (ESL) program are exempt. They must be evaluated after they complete the program.
  • Students who already hold an associate degree or higher from an accredited college or university and can provide proof of completion.
  • Students who have completed the equivalent of English Composition (ENG 101) and college level math (MTH 107 or higher math course) with a grade of "C" or higher, and can provide proof of completion.
  • Students with an SAT score of 540 or higher in Verbal/Critical Reading and 530 or higher in Math, and can provide proof of completion.
  • Students with an ACT score of 23 or higher, and can provide proof of completion.
  • Students who have met the College's requirement for CLEP or Advanced Placement in English, computation and elementary algebra.
  • Students who have completed remediation comparable to BCC's highest level of remediation at another regionally accredited college. Students must provide a transcript and a catalog course description.
  • Students who are not working toward a degree and want to attempt fewer than 30 credits. The assessment will be required prior to attempting the 30th credit. See Non-Degree Seeking Admission for additional information.
  • Students who have taken the test at another New Jersey College and the test results have been forwarded to BCC.

Applicants can register for English Composition (ENG 101) or college-level mathematics (MTH 100 or higher) only after they have taken, or been exempted from, the College Assessment.

Special Arrangements for Students with Disabilities
If you have a learning or physical disability that prevents you from taking the assessment under standard conditions, you may request special accommodations. No charge is made for these arrangements. For details on these and other services for students with special needs, please call or see Office of Special Populations

Pre-Enrollment Sessions
All students who have taken the College Assessment may take part in a Pre-Enrollment Session. During this session, you will receive your scores and be assisted in interpreting them. You'll hear important information on BCC's many academic programs and the transfer process to four-year schools. In addition, our staff will help you select and register for courses. For more information on Pre-Enrollment Session dates and times, email mailto:correa@bcc.edu

Immunization Information
The State of New Jersey requires students born after 1956 who are enrolled in a degree program to submit proof of:

  • two doses of the measles vaccine and
  • at least one dose of both mumps and rubella on or after their first birthday, or
  • provide evidence that they are exempt

Students may be admitted and enrolled on a provisional basis for their first term if required immunization documentation is not available at the time of registration. You will receive additional information about immunization requirements and eligible exemptions from the Office of Admissions. If you have any questions about the regulations, please contact the Office of Admissions.

Full-Time Students' Hospitalization Insurance
The New Jersey State Legislature mandates that all full-time students (enrolled in 12 or more credits) be covered by hospital medical insurance.

The College has obtained a group policy that provides coverage for the period September 1 to August 31. You will be automatically billed for this non-refundable premium unless you are covered by another policy and complete a waiver. Hospitalization Insurance fees vary depending on the semester in which you enroll.

If you do not wish to be included in the plan because you are covered by another policy, you must complete the BCC Hospitalization Waiver. Waivers are available at the Registration Office, Pemberton Campus and at the front desk of the Technology and Engineering Center (TEC), Mt. Laurel Campus. Waiver forms must be turned in to the Accounting Office, Pemberton Campus, or the TEC Main Office, Mt. Laurel Campus. Waivers must be submitted prior to the first day of classes.

Residency Requirements
Students who indicate on their applications that they are residents of Burlington County satisfy the residency requirements by signing their applications. If requested, students must be able to submit a notarized statement of residency. Any falsification of information may subject the student to dismissal from Burlington County College.

Out-of-county, Out-of-state students

Persons who do not reside in Burlington County are accepted for admission using the same criteria as for county residents. Non-county residents, however, will be charged more tuition. Financial Matters/Paying for College/College Costs/Chargeback Law
