Who is Eligible?

  • High school graduates since 2006 in the top 20% of their graduating class. 

How does it work?

The county high schools will certify and identify those students in the top 20% of their graduating class to the state. The state tracks NJ STARS students through the financial aid system, so it is vital to apply for financial aid.

Qualifying students are eligible to receive up to 5 continuous semesters of tuition, excluding summer; with no more than 3 credits of remedial and or developmental courses, and approved fees free of charge up to 15 credits a semester.

First Year
  • Students must apply for all federal and state grants and scholarships by submitting the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and include BCC’s Federal School Code 007730
  • Students must enter Burlington County College as a full-time student taking at least 12 college-level credits
  • Students must enroll in an associate degree seeking major or program
Second Year
  • Students must submit a renewal FAFSA.
  • Students must maintain a 3.0 Grade Point Average, while continuing with full-time, degree-seeking status

Scholarship Guidelines

  • Students must apply for all need-based federal (FAFSA completion required) and merit-based state financial aid grants, such as the Pell Grant, the Tuition Aid Grant (TAG), and the Edward J. Bloustein Distinguished Scholars. The NJ STARS program will pay the remaining balance of tuition and fees. NJ STARS will completely cover the tuition and approved fees for students who do not qualify for financial aid grants.
  • Students must have attended at least a full senior year, and graduated from a New Jersey high school in the top 20 percent of the graduating 2006 through 2008 classes.
  • Qualifying students are eligible to receive up to 5 semesters of tuition (minimum of 12 credits per term, excluding summer; no more than 3 credits of remedial and or developmental courses) and approved fees free of charge up to 15 credits a semester.
  • Students must enroll full-time in an associate degree-seeking program (matriculated).
  • To continue the scholarship in the sophomore year, the student must achieve academic standing with at least a 3.0 grade point average.
  • Students have two years after high school graduation to enroll, but within the two years did not attend a four year College or University.
  • BCC recommends all potential candidates to contact their High School Guidance Counselor, requesting the submission of a letter (on the high school's letter head) indicating their final class rank (for NJ STARS use only).
  • Consecutive full-time enrollment is required once awarded, unless on a medical leave due to illness of the student or the student's immediate family or emergency (written BCC approval prior to leave required).
  • Students dismissed for academic or disciplinary reasons will no longer be eligible for the scholarship. Students dismissed for disciplinary reasons shall repay in full all amounts received under the NJ STARS program.

 

       BCC NJ STARS Students Can Earn Their
Bachelor's Degrees for Free with NJ STARS II

 

 

 
Burlington County College NJ STARS students who earn their associate's degrees with a 3.0 grade point average or better are eligible for NJ STARS II.
 
NJ STARS II provides a scholarship for tuition and approved fees. The state provides $4,000 per year towards tuition and approved fees and the participating institution covers the remaining balance. Students must first apply for all other federal and state financial aid available to them.
 
NOTE: NJ STARS II does not cover books and room and board.

Under NJ STARS II, BCC credits are fully transferable, allowing students to begin at the four-year institution as juniors.

How Does NJ STARS II Work? 

 

 

  • Students must be NJ Stars recipients
  • Students must graduate from a NJ county college with an associate degree
  • Students must graduate with a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or higher
  • Students must be admitted to a NJ four-year participating institution
  • Students must be enrolled in a baccalaureate degree program no later than the second semester immediately following county college graduation
  • Students must be enrolled in a full-time course of study (minimum 12 college-level credits) each semester
  • Students must apply for all forms of State and Federal need-based grants and merit scholarships
