Burlington County College’s (BCC) culinary arts students recently took home the top prize in the Food Bank of South Jersey’s first “Food Bank Hunger Games,” a cooking competition and fundraiser that benefitted food-insecure families in South Jersey.
Six teams received an identical box of food normally distributed by the Food Bank of South Jersey and were challenged to create a tasty and nutritious meal from the ingredients. Each team’s chef mentor worked to help secure sponsors from the audience for additional ingredients. After an hour, a panel of judges reviewed each team’s dish.
BCC’s students came out on top with their chicken satay served on a bed of rice and vegetables, with a side of French toast points and apples. They were presented with a trophy at the Food Bank of South Jersey’s headquarters in Pennsauken.
