Career Planning Assistance
The Career Planning Center will help you explore career options and/or your transfer to senior institutions. It provides our students a variety of resources including extensive literature, vocational assessment instruments and many college catalogs for transfer institutions. If you are interested in concentrated career exploration and assessing which careers best suit your strengths, contact an academic advisor or counselor.

For self-directed career planning research, visit the career resource area of the Pemberton Campus Library on the east end of the second floor. This collection includes college catalogs for transfer institutions in the United States. The books available include resources on specific occupations, resumes, interviewing, college selection, financial aid, and job resources in various parts of the country. The vertical files include materials on career choices, occupations not included in books, and information on professional organizations.

Applications for transfer institutions in the Delaware Valley, New Jersey, and some of the historically African-American colleges are available at the Library Circulation Desk, along with transfer guides for the colleges with which BCC has transfer agreements.

Employment While in College
Are you one of the many BCC students who work part-time or full-time while pursuing your degree? To assist you in achieving a proper balance between work hours and academic load, the College recommends that:

  1. Your total number of work, class and study hours should be limited to about 60 hours a week, and
  2. You spend at least two hours of outside study for each class hour.
Based on these guidelines, the chart below includes:
  1. One hour for each hour you attend class
  2. Two hours of study for each class hour
  3. One hour for each for each hour you work
Added together, the total should not exceed 60 hours.
Total Class
Hours
Study Work Total
17 34 0 51
15 30 15 60
12 24 20 56
9 18 30 57
6 12 40 58

If you have any questions, check with a college academic advisor/counselor. If you are a Cooperative Education student, or a student receiving credit for employment, contact the co-op coordinator for special work and class recommendations.

Cooperative Education
Burlington County College's cooperative education program is offered college-wide. Whatever your major, you may apply for a co-op job related to your academic goals. You will earn money (generally from the employer) for your work. A co-op experience is recommended or required in many programs. If you're already employed, you may qualify to earn credits for your work.

BCC's cooperative education program has a "rolling registration" which triggers the start of a 15-week co-op semester when you begin working or when your current job receives approval to qualify for credit. The number of credits you'll earn during a 15-week semester is determined by the number of hours that you work, as shown in the following chart:

Credit Hours Clock Hours
Per Week
Total Work
Hours
1 8-14 115-229
2 15-22 230-344
3 23-30 345-459
4 31 plus 460 plus
6 12 40

You may earn up to four credit hours per co-op semester and a maximum of 12 credit hours toward your degree requirements. Full-time or part-time students are eligible for part-time or full-time jobs, whichever best suits the schedules of you and your employer.
