Dear College Family and Friends,

It is with great sadness that I report the passing of Burlington County College’s long-time Board of Trustee Member William K. McDaniel. Mr McDaniel  passed away on Tuesday, October 27, 2009 at the age of 87.

Mr. Mc Daniel’s passing is a great loss not only to the College but also to the entire community.  First and foremost, my heart and prayers are with the McDaniel family.  Bill was a friend to many and a dear and close friend to me personally.  His commitment to education was evident in all roles throughout the years and throughout the community.

Mr. McDaniel was the longest serving member of the Burlington County College Board of Trustees. For 35 years he was a tireless advocate for the College as well as community colleges throughout New Jersey and across the country. He was the driving force behind the establishment of a nursing program at the college. In addition to his responsibilities at BCC, he was also a founding member of the Association of Community College Trustees and served on its national board of directors.

Mr. McDaniel, who earned his Master’s of Science degree from Harvard University in 1947, was a native of Greenwood, Mississippi and a long-time resident of Columbus, NJ.

Mr. McDaniel’s career path reflects his perfect balance between making a living and building a life.  Through the years, he took the helm of various companies that kept him grounded within Burlington County.  Mr. McDaniel held the various positions throughout his life; President of Wrightstown Enterprises, Inc., President of  Holly Hotel Corporation, Chairman of West Jersey Broadcasting Company, Director of Resource Recovery Corporation, Director of several banks overseeing various mergers, Director of the Executive Committee for General Artists Corporation, Director of Executive Committee for Holly Sugar Corporation, Owner of Indian Spring Farm and Indian Meadow Farm, President of Commodity Marketing Associates and Chairman of the U.S. Sugar Corporation.

In addition to his diverse business interests and service to the College, Mr. McDaniel was a dedicated volunteer on behalf of many community organizations.  Throughout his years, he has served many organizations in various leadership roles including president of the Pemberton Rotary, district chairman of the Burlington County Council of the Boy Scouts of America, a trustee of Memorial Hospital of Burlington County, a chairman of the Burlington County Welfare Board, mayor of the Borough of Wrightstown, President of the New Hanover Township School Board and a member of Masonic Lodge 199.
