Doctor of Philosophy Degree Prerequisites

Prior Education

  • Accredited Master's degree in theological/biblical studies or M.Div. (3.0 minimum GPA), unless granted provisional acceptance.
  • Master's degree must include a thesis
  • 12 semester hours of Biblical Greek
  • 12 semester hours of Biblical Hebrew
  • 9 semester hours of German, French, or Latin

Transcript Submission

All official transcripts must be sent directly to Bridges Christian College & Seminary from the institution.

Required Accreditation

Your Master's degree must be accredited by one of the following:

  • Association for Biblical Higher Education (ABHE)
  • Transnational Association of Christian Colleges and Schools (TRACS)
  • Association of Theological Schools (ATS)
  • Regional accreditation recognized by the U.S. Department of Education


If transferring credits from another institution, that school must also be accredited by one of the bodies listed above.

Doctor of Ministry Degree Prerequisites

Ministry Experience

  • At least 3 years of full-time or bi-vocational ministry experience
  • Currently engaged in ministry either full-time or bi-vocationally

Prior Education

  • Accredited M.Div. degree or educational equivalent (3.0 minimum GPA), unless granted provisional acceptance
  • M.Div. must be a minimum of 72 semester hours
  • M.Div. equivalency is determined by the admissions committee



Note: Students without the required amount of Master’s level credits may apply to obtain credits at the Master’s level at Bridges Christian College & Seminary to meet the prerequisites.

1. All official transcripts, as noted in the degree prerequisites noted above for your preferred program of study. Official TRANSCRIPTS MUST BE MAILED TO THE MAILING ADDRESS LISTED ABOVE from the issuing institution or emailed from the issuing institution. If the issuing institution is emailing the transcripts, then they may email them to [email protected].


2. Submission of a sample research paper.

  • For the DMin, the paper must be a 12-page paper from the applicant’s MDiv coursework.
  • For the PhD, the paper must be a thesis or capstone from the applicants master’s degree work.
  • The paper should be double-spaced and in Times New Roman font.
  • The paper should include a title page and bibliography. The 12 pages of written content does not include the required title page and bibliography.
  • The paper must be formatted in Turabian/Chicago Style.

3. Provision of a curriculum vita (academic and ministry resume) with an autobiography describing the applicant’s personal background (family life, employment, education), church affiliation/credentialing, Christian experience (conversion, regeneration, sanctification, Spirit baptism, ministry calling), and reason for applying to this graduate school. The autobiography should be 1-page long.


4. The student must read and sign the Student Handbook covenant agreement forms.

5. Submission of the three reference forms from a (1) senior pastor/pastoral mentor, (2) former educator (if graduated college within the last 4 years) or employer, and (3) friend/general. Please note: the references may be completed, scanned, and emailed to [email protected].
